The medieval wedding dress Matilda is a recreation of the dresses worn by women of the early middle ages around 1000 AD. It is three parts: a long tunic (cotte), the knee-length overtunic (surcot) and the belt.
This dress is perfect for any event you want a historical looking gown and not just some random fantasy creation.
The dress will be made for you. You can create your very own dress with your choice of fabric, color, and trim.
CUT
The Cotte (long underdress) is cut after the fashion of the early middle ages. It is in a simple A-Line with tight sleeves reaching below the wrist. Neckline, sleeves, and hem can be decorated with trim in your choice of color.
The Surcot (shorter tunic style dress) is slightly cut to the waist but still has the basic A-shape. The wide sleeves reach below the knee. Just like the Cotte, the Surcot can be decorated with trim along the square neckline and the sleeves. The trim includes embroidery in matching colors.
You can adjust the dress with the belt you get with it. There are different styles you can try, depending on how you want your dress to look like.
As the dress is fitted with the belt, it will work for many sizes. It will look beautiful for maternity as well.
FABRIC:
Please choose the fabric for the Cotte (underdress) from the first menu and the fabric for the Surcot (short tunic) from the second menu.
Cotton (100%): light cotton, ideal for wearing on warm summer days or inside. Comes in many colors and can be easily machine washed.
Linen (100%): for a historical dress, linen is a really good choice. A linen dress will last a long time. You have quite a big choice of colors. Linen can be machine washed.
Linen-Mix (80% Linen, 20% Rayon): a finer, softer alternative to pure linen. Color choice is a bit limited. Linen-Mix can be machine washed.
Light wool (100% wool): wool fit for autumn or spring days. And it is the perfect fabric for a historical dress. You can just brush the dirt off your wool dress.
Dupioni silk (100% silk): silk with an irregular weave (little lines and knobs possible). Dupioni comes in many colors. You will have do dry clean it. And Dupioni is not historical at all.
Cotton velvet (100% cotton): for your very lush dress, velvet is the right choice. Colors are a bit limited. Cotton velvet can be machine washed.
TRIM:
The dress comes with a trim on neckline, sleeves, and the underdress skirt hem. The embroidery at the neckline is included as well.
Please tell me your preferred colors for the trim.
COLORS:
You can have the dress in almost any color you want. Please tell me your desired color or color combination in the personalization box or with a message after you ordered your dress. If you want a certain shade, I will gladly look them up for you before you buy the dress.
